School Bus Driver 8-Hour Initial Course

New Bus Drivers are required to attend an 8-hour training course. Pre-register for this course with the Regional Office of Education ($10.00 fee required) at the orange REGISTRATION (GROUP) button below. You must be currently employed by a bus company or school district.

This foundational three-hour session is designed for paraprofessionals in their first one-to-three years of service and introduces essential skills and knowledge for paraprofessionals new to supporting students in Illinois schools. Participants will learn about their role in the classroom, basic behavior management techniques, and effective communication strategies with both students and teachers. Through scenario-based learning and collaborative problem-solving, paraprofessionals will practice real-world de-escalation techniques and methods for facilitating positive peer interactions. The session emphasizes versatile support strategies that can be adapted across different academic settings while maintaining the appropriate level of intervention. Participants will leave with a toolkit of concrete approaches for promoting positive behavior while systematically building student independence and self-regulation skills.
