Understanding ISBE’s IEP Facilitation Process: Essentials for Special Education Leaders

This session introduces Illinois’ state-sponsored IEP Facilitation process and how special education administrators can use it as a proactive, preventative tool. Participants will learn when facilitation may be appropriate, what the facilitator’s role is (and is not), and how districts retain responsibility while benefiting from a neutral third party. The session will also highlight how IEP Facilitation can support productive communication, reduce conflict, and keep teams focused on the student’s needs. Designed for administrators, this training emphasizes practical decision-making and real-world application.
