Illinois Assessment of Readiness: three words that bring anxiety and stress to many educators. What if you were given the resources to develop formative and summative assessments that mirror IAR? We will discuss how you can incorporate IAR-style assessments into your curriculum throughout the year so you can avoid the IAR prep that is crammed into the months of February and March. We will explore the "big ideas" behind IAR prep, provide you with resources to make assessment creation easier, and, finally, allow you the time to create your own IAR-style assessments. You already have engaging lessons and ongoing assessments in your classroom, so join us as you modify, borrow, and restructure the excellent work you are already doing to help your students prepare for the IAR test!

Have you ever found yourself asking the question, “Why does he do that?” Do you ever wonder why some of your best techniques work with some kids and not others? In this workshop, we will take the position that all behavior has meaning. And, that it is our job as adults who work with and/or care for young children to figure out what the child’s behavior is telling us. Participants will be introduced to a variety of ways to think about behaviors that are confusing and/or causing problems. We’ll specifically look at the role of emotions in development as well as environmental influences. Participants will be encouraged to understand the ways in which their own personality and temperaments may influence a child to behave in certain ways. There will be something in this workshop for everyone who knows, loves, or works with a child about whom you ask, “Why does he do that?” Come! We’ll laugh as we learn together. Intended for Early Childhood educators.
