Explore the crucial role of fluency as the bridge between decoding and comprehension in grades K-3, while recognizing that fluency is not solely about speed but encompasses a blend of accuracy and expressive reading.

Participants will dig into the intricate components of fluency—accuracy, rate, and prosody—through hands-on activities and modeling to learn how together they serve as the anchor connecting the foundational skill of decoding to the higher-level cognitive process of comprehension. Session presented by Dr. Kim Wagner.

“Teaching Reading Sourcebook” (3rd edition) by Honig Diamond Gutlohn is required for this session. Your registration for this event includes the price of the book ($100), which will be provided to you at the time of the event.Our trainings are based on the most-recent, Third Edition, of the book. If attendees have the 1st or 2nd edition, the editions are similar enough to work (to the best of our knowledge). You MUST bring the book with you to all sessions as it is required for all events.
