Comprehension: Moving Beyond Strategy Instruction to Deep Understanding (5-8)

Comprehension: Moving Beyond Strategy Instruction to Deep Understanding (5-8)

Discover how comprehension instruction can nurture a student's deep understanding of a text, being recognized as the very "essence of reading" (Durkin, 1993). This workshop is designed to provide 5-8 educators with the essential tools to move beyond basic strategy application and foster a deeper connection between the reader, the text, and the activity.

Participants will engage with a variety of approaches that transcend surface-level comprehension, leading students to extract meaning by synthesizing personal experiences with the text.

Join us as we delve into strategies that elevate comprehension, emphasizing the pivotal role it plays in shaping a genuine and meaningful connection between readers and the texts they encounter.

This is a one-day event on November 19, 2024 from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
