Illinois state law (105 ILCS 128/45 Sec. 45) now requires every school to have a threat assessment team established and threat assessment procedures developed and implemented. This workshop will provide an overview of the new legal requirements as well as provide you with training that is considered “best practice” by the US Dept of Education and the US Secret Service. Participants will be able to assess the severity of threats, analyze the safety of students and staff, and develop a plan of action to protect them. Valuable resources, including documentation, scripted protocols as well as guidance for decision making for students with IEP’s, 504, and/or BIP plans and SB100 compliance are included within the course.

This academy will be presented by Boone-Winnebago ROE4 Superintendents, Scott Bloomquist and Allison Pierson. Scott Bloomquist is Regional Superintendent for the Boone/Winnebago ROE 4. He previously served as Assistant Regional Superintendent and Superintendent for a unit district. Allison Pierson is currently serving as the Assistant Regional Superintendent for the Boone/Winnebago ROE 4. She previously served as Director of Student Services for a unit district in the region where Scott was superintendent. It was during their tenure in the district that a tremendous need developed to train their staff on behavioral threat assessments. The work in researching threat assessments and training their staff resulted in the writing of this administrative academy. Together they have traveled all over the state and have trained nearly 2,000 school leaders and over 2 dozen individual districts on this threat assessment system considered a best practice by the US Dept of Education and US Secret Service.

Objectives:
By the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply the skills and information obtained by implementing the system through hands-on activities and potential threat scenarios
  • Identify specific types of threats, how to develop a student safety assessment and management team
  • Use scripted protocols to handle situations with fidelity, and establish a plan for the reintegration of the student(s) into the school environment

This IN-PERSON course will be held at the ROE 4 Office, Main Training Room, 300 Heart Blvd, Loves Park, IL 61111. Participant will be responsible for the registration fee unless cancellation notice is received by the ROE 4 office within 7 business days of the training. Refunds will not be processed unless this criteria is met.
